Explore off the beaten path destinations in Croatia

The world has turned into a global village, but there are still places somewhat unconquered by visiting masses, or as we usually say, off the beaten path destinations.

Thanks to todays travel options, so many world famous tourist destinations are literally at our fingertips. Croatia is no exception here. It has become one of top European vacation destinations in recent years, with its now renowned hotspots like Dubrovnik, Split and Plitvice. Thousands upon thousands of visitors desire to stroll down medieval streets and city walls popularized through Game of Thrones, to tan on the kilometers long sun-kissed sand beaches or to marvel at the natural beauties of huge waterfalls and lakes. Don't get us wrong, all these frequented places will surely provide you with plenty of delightful moments you'll treasure for a very long time. But why not create unique experiences and travel the road less traveled? Or should we say, sail the sea routes less traveled because most of these destinations are reachable only by a boat.

In close vicinity of popular destinations that are heavily packed in the high season you will discover plenty of places that are still managing to retain much of their authentic identities intact. If you want to avoid the crowds and truly experience the Croatian way of life, then visiting off the beaten path locations in Croatia is the way to go. Here you will meet real people and learn the stories of their villages, tradition and culture. Here you will taste traditional delicacies and quality wines. Here you will discover less touristy, but nevertheless fascinating attractions and local secrets.

Take Korčula for example. A fairly small island but rich in culture, vineyards, olive groves, sandy beaches and numerous activities to keep you busy. Or maybe Brač, famous for its radiant white stone used to build Diocletian Palace in Split and Cathedral of St.James in Šibenik, but also known for its beaches, windsurfing and traditional architecture. Stunningly beautiful island of Lastovo and its surrounding archipelago of 45 smaller islands full of wildlife as well as walking and cycling trails is a fantastic option for nature lovers and outdoor enthusiasts. After being cut off from visitors for decades due to military reasons, the island of Vis is now known worldwide because of the Stiniva beach, but it's also a haven for divers and sailing enthusiasts. Although not very far away from Dubrovnik, Pelješac peninsula is often overlooked, which is a big mistake, because here you'll find some of Croatia's most popular wineries and the Wall of Ston, fortification system resembling the Great Wall of China and ideal for both walking and photoshooting.

These are just few examples of off the beaten path destinations in Croatia, there are countless more experiences to be had, countless more locations definitely worth to visit.
